Build Canada – Toronto Invites Candidates to Share Their Plans and Help Voters Make an Informed Choice

TORONTO, Sept. 21, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- With Toronto’s municipal election approaching, Build Canada is encouraging mayoral candidates to share their plans with voters through a questionnaire on its 2026 Toronto Election Hub.

The questionnaire asks candidates about issues that will shape Toronto’s future, including housing, jobs, attracting and retaining young professionals, technology, transportation, and more.

So far, 15 registered mayoral candidates and 44 registered council candidates have completed the questionnaire, including one of the three mayoral frontrunners, Brad Bradford. Build Canada – Toronto, a project of Build Canada, expects more candidates to participate in the weeks ahead, including Olivia Chow and Chris Alexander, who have yet to fill out the questionnaire.

“Toronto is a city with enormous potential, but the choices we make in this election will help determine what kind of city we become,” said Lucy Hargreaves, CEO of Build Canada. “Voters deserve clear information about where candidates stand and what they plan to do, if elected. Our goal is to give Torontonians the information they need to make an informed choice about the future of their city.”

The Build Canada – Toronto Election Hub brings key election information together in one place. In addition to candidate responses, voters can find key voting dates, information about their local wards, and a tool to see which candidates’ views most closely align with their own.

“We all know Toronto is capable of so much more,” said Hargreaves. “This election is an opportunity to have a serious conversation about how we get there – and candidates need to engage. We want voters to have the information they need to choose the leaders with the ideas and plans to build the Toronto we know is possible.”

Build Canada is a non-partisan civic organization and does not promote, support or oppose any particular candidate in the election. The organization is encouraging all mayoral candidates – particularly those receiving significant public attention – to complete the questionnaire, so voters can better understand the choices before them and make an informed decision about Toronto’s future.
